1. MP 582 Rock of ages

    1. Rock of ages, cleft for me,
      let me hide myself in Thee;
      let the water and the blood,
      from Thy riven side which flowed,
      be of sin the double cure,
      cleanse me from its guilt and power.

    2. Not the labour of my hands
      can fulfil Thy law’s demands;
      could my zeal no respite know,
      could my tears for ever flow,
      all for sin could not atone;
      Thou must save, and Thou alone.

    3. Nothing in my hand I bring,
      simply to Thy cross I cling;
      naked, come to Thee for dress,
      helpless, look to Thee for grace;
      foul, I to the fountain fly;
      wash me, Saviour, or I die.

    4. While I draw this fleeting breath,
      when mine eyes shall close in death,
      when I soar through tracts unknown,
      see Thee on Thy judgement throne;
      Rock of ages, cleft for me,
      let me hide myself in Thee.

  2. MP 987 Here is love vast as the ocean

    1. Here is love vast as the ocean,
      loving kindness as the flood,
      when the Prince of life, our ransom,
      shed for us His precious blood.
      Who His love will not remember;
      who can cease to sing His praise?
      He can never be forgotten
      throughout heaven’s eternal days.

    2. On the mount of crucifixion
      fountains opened deep and wide;
      through the floodgates of God’s mercy
      flowed a vast and gracious tide.
      Grace and love, like mighty rivers
      poured incessant from above;
      and heaven’s peace and perfect justice
      kissed a guilty world in love.

  3. MP 275 I heard the voice of Jesus say

    1. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
      ‘Come unto Me and rest;
      lay down, thou weary one, lay down
      thy head upon My breast’:
      I came to Jesus as I was,
      weary, and worn, and sad;
      I found in Him a resting-place,
      and He has made me glad.

    2. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
      ‘Behold, I freely give
      the living water; thirsty one,
      stoop down and drink, and live’:
      I came to Jesus, and I drank
      of that life-giving stream;
      my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
      and now I live in Him.

    3. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
      ‘I am this dark world’s light;
      look unto Me, thy morn shall rise,
      and all thy day be bright’:
      I looked to Jesus and I found
      in Him my star, my sun;
      and in that light of life I’ll walk
      till travelling days are done.

  4. MP 251 How sweet the name of Jesus

    1. How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
      in a believer’s ear!
      It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
      and drives away his fear.

    2. It makes the wounded spirit whole,
      and calms the troubled breast;
      ‘tis manna to the hungry soul,
      and to the weary rest.

    3. Dear name! the rock on which I build,
      my shield and hiding-place,
      my never-failing treasury, filled
      with boundless stores of grace.

    4. Jesus! my shepherd, brother, friend,
      my Prophet, Priest and King;
      my Lord, my life, my way, my end,
      accept the praise I bring.

    5. Weak is the effort of my heart,
      and cold my warmest thought;
      but when I see Thee as Thou art,
      I’ll praise Thee as I ought.

    6. Till then I would Thy love proclaim
      with every fleeting breath;
      and may the music of Thy name
      refresh my soul in death!

  5. MP 1072 In Christ alone

    1. In Christ alone my hope is found,
      He is my light, my strength, my song;
      this cornerstone, this solid ground,
      firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
      What heights of love, what depths of peace,
      when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
      My comforter, my all in all,
      here in the love of Christ I stand.

    2. In Christ alone - who took on flesh,
      fullness of God in helpless Babe!
      This gift of love and righteousness,
      scorned by the ones he came to save
      till on that cross as Jesus died,
      the wrath of God was satisfied,
      for every sin on Him was laid;
      here in the death of Christ I live.

    3. There in the ground his body lay,
      light of the world by darkness slain,
      then, bursting forth in glorious day,
      up from the grave He rose again!
      And as he stands in victory
      sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
      for I am His and He is mine –
      bought with the precious blood of Christ.

    4. No guilt in life, no fear in death,
      this is the power of Christ in me;
      from life’s first cry to final breath,
      Jesus commands my destiny.
      No power of hell, no scheme of man
      can ever pluck me from His hand;
      till He returns or calls me home,
      here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!

  6. MP 52 Because He lives

    1. God sent His Son, they called Him Jesus;
      He came to love, heal, and forgive;
      He lived and died to buy my pardon,
      an empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives.

      Because He lives I can face tomorrow;
      because He lives all fear is gone;
      because I know He holds the future,
      and life is worth the living just because He lives.

    2. How sweet to hold a new-born baby,
      and feel the pride and joy he gives;
      but greater still the calm assurance,
      this child can face uncertain days because He lives.

      Because He lives I can face tomorrow;
      because He lives all fear is gone;
      because I know He holds the future,
      and life is worth the living just because He lives.

    3. And then one day I’ll cross the river;
      I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
      and then as death gives way to victory,
      I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives.

      Because He lives I can face tomorrow;
      because He lives all fear is gone;
      because I know He holds the future,
      and life is worth the living just because He lives.
