1. Welcome and Intimations

  2. Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

    Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy name;
    thy kingdom come;
    thy will be done;
    on earth as it is in heaven.
    Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our trespasses,
    as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    And lead us not into temptation;
    but deliver us from evil.
    For thine is the kingdom,
    the power, and the glory
    for ever and ever.
    Amen.

  3. CH4 316 Love came down at Christmas

    1. Love came down at Christmas,
      love all lovely, Love divine;
      Love was born at Christmas;
      star and angels gave the sign.

    2. Worship we the Godhead,
      Love incarnate, Love divine;
      worship we our Jesus,
      but wherewith for sacred sign?

    3. Love shall be our token;
      love be yours and love be mine;
      love to God and others,
      love for plea and gift and sign.

  4. Lighting the Advent Candles

    Advent 4 – Love

    One:
    Last Sunday we lit the candle of Hope, remembering the hope which comes in Christ, the candle of Peace, remembering God’s dream of a peaceful world, and the candle of Joy, remembering the Spirit within us who brings joy. (Light Candles). Today we light the fourth candle of Advent, the candle of Love.

    Scripture tells us “There is no fear in love, for perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18). God created this world in love and this world will end in the love of God. God’s love pervades all aspects of this life. From birth to death, pain to delight, strangers to lovers, God’s love is there. We light this candle in Love. (Light Candle)

    All:
    On this day, we remember God is Love.

  5. Hymn CH4 312 Away in a manger

  6. Meditation

  7. CH4 312 Away in a Manger

    1. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
      the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
      The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
      the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

    2. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
      but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
      I love you, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky,
      and stay by my side until morning is nigh.

    3. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay
      close by me forever and love me, I pray.
      Bless all the dear children in your tender care,
      and take us to heaven to live with you there.

  8. A Christmas story

  9. The Christingle Song

    (Tune: Give me oil in my lamp)

    Congregation sing verses & Sunday school chorus

    1. The Christingle begins with an orange,
      like the world which the Lord God made.
      For creation is full of his glory;
      all around we see his love displayed.

      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, it’s the light of Christ.
      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, light of Christ.

    2. Every year we give thanks for the seasons,
      and the fruits of the earth to share.
      The Christingle is here to remind us
      that the love of God is everywhere.

      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, it’s the light of Christ.
      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, light of Christ.

    3. God of love, we give thanks now for Jesus;
      we remember his birth again.
      But the red ribbon round the Christingle
      tells the story of his cross and pain.

      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, it’s the light of Christ.
      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, light of Christ.

    4. To complete the Christingle:
      a candle, telling us of the world’s true light.
      For the darkness shall not overcome it,
      Jesus shines on in the darkest night.

      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, it’s the light of Christ.
      Sing Christingle! Sing Christingle!
      Sing Christingle, light of Christ.

  12. CH4 310 See him lying on a bed of straw

    1. See Him lying on a bed of straw:
      a draughty stable with an open door;
      Mary cradling the babe she bore –
      the Prince of glory is His name.

      O now carry me to Bethlehem
      to see the Lord appear to men –
      just as poor as was the stable then,
      the Prince of glory when He came.

    2. Star of silver, sweep across the skies,
      show where Jesus in the manger lies;
      shepherds, swiftly from your stupor rise
      to see the Saviour of the world!

      O now carry me to Bethlehem
      to see the Lord appear to men –
      just as poor as was the stable then,
      the Prince of glory when He came.

    3. Angels, sing the song that you began,
      bring God’s glory to the heart of man;
      sing that Bethl’em’s little baby can
      be salvation to the soul.

      O now carry me to Bethlehem
      to see the Lord appear to men –
      just as poor as was the stable then,
      the Prince of glory when He came.

    4. Mine are riches, from Your poverty,
      from Your innocence, eternity:
      mine forgiveness by Your death for me,
      child of sorrow for my joy.

      O now carry me to Bethlehem
      to see the Lord appear to men –
      just as poor as was the stable then,
      the Prince of glory when He came.
